Our surgical suite is equipped with innovative technological features that enhance surgical amenities while minimizing the risks of surgery and general anesthesia.
Dr. Amy Jergens is a board certified equine surgeon. Our anesthetist, Emma Francis, CVT is a licensed veterinary technician who runs and monitors anesthesia on all surgical procedures.
The patient is first prepped for surgery and then brought into our heavily padded induction and recovery room. Once the patient is situated in the induction room, anesthetic induction agents are administered and the horse is gently lowered to the padded floor. Our hoist then elevates the anesthetized patient to enable proper positioning onto our padded surgery table.
During the procedure our licensed anesthetist uses state of the art monitoring equipment to evaluate direct arterial blood pressure, blood oxygenation, ECG activity, ventilation pressures and volumes, and blood gas analysis. These parameters are continuously monitored and adjusted to the individual needs of each patient throughout the procedure, minimizing the inherent risks of general anesthesia. A recovery team remains with your horse during the recovery process to ensure optimal safety for your horse.
